The Burney Society (North America) Biennial Conference:

The Burneys: Crossroads, Revolutions, and Transformations

New Brunswick, New Jersey, June 12-13, 2025

Our two-day conference and 2025 Annual General Meeting of members will take place at the Inn and Conference Center at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

The conference fee of USD $250 ($150 for full-time students) includes lunches on Thursday, June 12, and Friday, June 13 (Frances Burney’s birthday), as well as a dinner with wine on Thursday, June 12, all at the Rutgers Inn and Conference Center.

Accommodations are available at the Rutgers Inn and Conference Center. Attendees should arrange them directly through the Inn. See below for details.

Conference Registration

Registration for the conference will cost USD$250 ($150 for full time students) and requires current membership in The Burney Society. The deadline for registering by mail is May 1, 2025. After that date, please register by email and pay via PayPal.

Accommodations

To book a room at the Inn and Conference Center, go to inn.rutgers.edu and follow the prompts. The system will require you to:

1. Click the BOOK A ROOM button

2. Select ARRIVAL DATE and select DEPARTURE DATE

3. Select the number of GUESTS

4. Enter PROMOTIONAL/GROUP CODE: Burney29796

5. Click the SEARCH AVAILABILITY button

6. Click the VIEW RATES button for their preferred room type

7. Click the ADD button

8. Follow the instructions for a credit card payment

9. Group room block is available for 6/12/25. If you would like to arrive earlier or stay longer, log back into the system and make additional reservations at prevailing rates. Do not re-enter the Promotional/Group Code. Make a note alerting the Inn’s staff that you are part of the Burney Society Conference so that you have a continuous stay in one room.

10. Rate and cancellation policy: non-refundable 100% deposit is required at the time of booking. Reservation cannot be cancelled, amended, or adjusted after booking. If guests do not arrive on the reservation date, the reservation will be cancelled without refund or credit.
